RICK TURNER SHORT BIO
Rick Turner is probably the greatest living all around luthier in the world. He is equally at home designing circuitry as he is in designing mandolins and electric guitars. His electronics designs are legendary, He is considered the grandfather of the boutique electric guitar scene.  He started building at a very young age.
His customer list is the most impressive of anyone I know and many of his incredible  accomplishments are very much unsung.

Few people know that when Rick worked for Gibson, he put together the deal that probably saved Gibson from bankruptcy and turned them around into the hugely profitable organization in the guitar business today. Rick is entirely responsible for signing "Slash" up as an endorser, in my opinion without "Slash" or someone else like him Gibson would not have been able to maintain their business. They came within weeks of bankruptcy in the mid 80's.
Rick founded and was president of  the original Alembic company in the early 70's and he was the first ever to build an actual electric guitar. I mean one that plugs into  a  wall plug.  Today Alembic guitars are by far the most expensive boutique electric guitars in the world, They can sell for as much as $30,000.00 new. That would be six times more than a competitive brand.  The model one was originally an Alembic project for Lindsey Buckingham but when Rick left the company that's the only design he took with him.

Alembic is still building a fine guitar today but personally I think they have gone overboard on the pricing and overboard on their pricing policies. Since I have known Rick I have cajoled him into telling me why he left the company and now that I know I understand why the pricing at Alembic is a little bit crazy to say the least.

Rick is responsible for the dTar acoustic amplification system, The highlander piezo system, The Original Stanley Clarke Bass and he is still building Stanley Clarke's actual instruments almost 40 years later.

Few people are aware that Rick played with Felix Pappalardi in a band well before Leslie West did in the mid 60's. If anyone remembers that bass sound that Felix produced for Cream, Mountain, Zeppelin and everyone else back then. It's no wonder Rick Turner was able to grab that as a model for the bass sound he created electronically and acoustically at Alembic.
